A big shout out to Catherine Staffieri for conducting our premiere Seminar, Detox: Healthy Nutrition After The Holidays and Beyond. An extremely informative, practical and interactive session followed. Here are some excerpts:
- Heart disease is the leading cause of death for women according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
- American Heart Association recommends less than 2,300 mg of salt per day. In everyday terms, that translates to less than 1 TEASPOON.
One 2 oz. serving, or 6 thin slices of deli meat can contain as much as half of your daily recommended dietary salt. The same is true for a slice of pizza with several toppings. Look for low sodium versions of your favorite lunch meats and add more veggies and less cheese on your next slice
- Aim for 25-38 grams of fiber per day to stay feeling full longer. 1 cup of oatmeal with berries at breakfast and you’ve already hit half your daily goal
Limit carbohydrates at every meal, opt for whole grains and fill half your plate with vegetables at dinner during the week for healthier weight management.
